Fish is an important part of the human diet because of its high nutritional quality. However, nonessential trace elements in the edible tissues of fish have been detected in some areas of the world and toxic heavy metals content in fish can counteract their beneficial effects. This study aims to determine the lead (Pb) content of Euthynnus affinis (mackerel tuna) bought from the three fishing ports along Balayan Bay namely Calatagan (Station I), Balayan (Station II), and Calaca (Station III). The Pb content of the head, muscle and internal organ of mackerel tuna samples were analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (Shimadzu AAS 700). The Pb content of the different body parts varies significantly. The highest level of Pb was observed in the internal organ of mackerel tuna while the lowest level was observed in the flesh. The mean Pb content of mackerel tuna in the head, flesh and internal organs is lower than the maximum acceptable limit set by US EPA and FDA for human consumption.
